How does it work?
This preparation is a plasma substitute. It contains modified fluid gelatin which behaves in a similar way to natural plasma albumin.
It is used as a short-term measure to expand and maintain blood volume after haemorrhage, acute injury or surgery, burns, serious infection, peritonitis.
It produces significant increases in blood volume, in heart output, blood pressure, urine output and oxygen transport to the vital tissues. It protects the kidneys by ensuring that an adequate blood flow is maintained.
What is it used for?
Shock caused by a reduction in the volume of blood, due to excessive blood loss or dehydration (hypovolaemic shock)
Use with caution in
Congestive heart failure
Kidney failure, preventing production of urine (anuria)
