A 61-YOM had painless white lesions on his tongue for 1 month.

การวินิจฉัย คือ geographic tongue (ยังมีชื่ออื่นว่า benign migratory
glossitis หรือ erythema migrans)
พบ geographic tongue ในประชากรอเมริกัน 1 -14 % ยังไม่ทราบสาเหตุของภาวะนี้. geographic tongue สัมพันธ์กับ fissured tongue และสัมพันธ์แบบผกผันกับการสูบบุหรี่.
ลักษณะของ geographic tongue: the dorsal tongue develops areas of papillary atrophy that appear smooth and are surrounded by raised serpiginous borders. These regions of atrophy spontaneously resolve and migrate, giving the tongue a variegated appearance.

ภาวะนี้ benign และ localized. ทั่วไปแล้วไม่ต้องให้การรักษาใดๆ ยกเว้นให้ความมั่นใจแก่ผู้ป่วย. บางรายที่มีอาการแสบลิ้นเวลากินอาหารร้อนหรือเผ็ด ก็อาจให้การรักษาด้วย topical steroid gels (เช่น triamcinolone dental paste) และ antihistamine mouth rinses (เช่น diphenhydramine elixir, 12.5 มก./5 มล. เจือจางด้วยน้ำในอัตราส่วน 1:4) ซึ่งสามารถลดความไวของลิ้นได้

การวินิจฉัยคือ geographic tongue
Geographic tongue (benign migratory glossitis) เป็น benign inflammatory condition ซึ่งพบได้ในประชาการโลกประมาณร้อยละ 2.
classic manifestation ของ geographic tongue คือ maplike distribution of erythema caused by atrophy of the filiform papillae of the tongue, surrounded by a white hyperkeratotic rim.
รอยโรคนี้หายไปได้เองโดยไม่มี sequelae แต่สามารถเกิดขึ้นได้อย่างรวดเร็วที่บริเวณอื่นของลิ้น.
