Condylar fractures of the mandible : A retrospective study of 46 cases in 5 years period

A retrospective study of 46 patients with condylar fractures of the mandible at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit, Police General Hospital, Thailand during the past 5 years (1993- 1997) was done. The results showed that the fracture occurred in males (82.6%) more than females (17.4%) and most of them occurred in third decade of life. Most of the fractures (67.4%) were caused by motorcycle accident. Subcondylar fracture was the most common location of the fracture, followed by condylar neck fracture . Class III condylar process displacement was mostly occurred (49.18%). All of the patients were treated by nonsurgical method including closed reduction and supportive treatment with minimal complications.
