The readiness of Dental Hospital staff for hospital accreditation

The objective of this survey was to evaluate the readiness of 124 dental staff at the Dental Hospital, Faculty of Dentistry, Prince of Songkla University, for Hospital Accreditation (HA), based on their perceptions and knowledge of quality improvement. The questionnaire consisted of 4 parts : 1) personal information, 2) readiness in 5 dimensions i.e. policy, understanding of quality improvement, awareness and commitment to quality improvement, teamwork and work system improvement, 3) knowledge of HA, and 4) opinions of good quality consisted of.
The results revealed that the majority of dental staff (77.4%) demonstrated a high level for overall readiness for beginning the quality improvement system. Most of administrators (79.2%) showed a high level of readiness while 77% of hospital staff showed a moderate level of readiness. T-test showed that the administrators had significantly higher scores than the hospital staff in overall readiness and in 2 readiness dimensions, policy and awareness and commitment to quality improvement.
The majority of subjects (67.7%) had knowledge of HA at a high level. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation (one tail-test) showed that the staff knowledge of HA was significantly positively correlated with the overall readiness and also with 3 readiness dimensions, understanding, teamwork and work system improvement.
