The objective of this study was to investigate the clients' satisfaction of the main clinic where treatments are given by dental students under instructors' dental supervision. The study was done after the change in clinical instruction format. The students were grouped and instructors supervised in these disciplines i.e. operative dentistry, endodontics, fixed prosthetics and periodontics. Questionnaires were designed for this purpose and responded by the non-repetitive clients, treated only in the aforementioned disciplines, during May-October, 1999. One hundred and eighty-one complete ques-tionnaires were collected. The results showed that more than half of the clients were female and clients' mean age was 32 years. Most were students and governmental officers. Filling was the main reason and treatment given to clients. More than 90% of clients recognized the main clinic from friends. They reported that the cost of treatment was reasonable.
Clients' satisfaction level was ranked highly satisfied with the dental students' human relationship while the dental students' quality of work, the clinical instructors' quality of work, the clinical instructors' human relationship and the management of service system were ranked as satisfied. The overall clients' satisfaction level was not significantly different according to sex, age, education level and frequency of service. Occupation and service experience significantly affect the overall clients' satisfaction level. From this study, we can conclude that the patients were satisfied under the clinical teaching employing the co-operative learning. Some improvements have to be done in the advertisement of the main clinic and a more rapid service. The clinical instructors' human relationship with the patients should be increased including punctuality and acceleration of service.
