Psychosocial problem of female prisoner in Songkhla province jail

The objective of this research was to study psychosocial problems of female prisoners in Songkhla Province, Southern Thailand. The researcher used a specific sampling method on 400 subjects and the correct data s were 378 subjects that is 95 %. The data were corrected during period of March- August 1999 using a structure questionnaire, that has been test by 6 qualified specialists in various subjects. The data analysis using simple statistics shown as frequency, percentage, and chi-square.
The results were shown as follows:
Mostly 46.6 % of sampling came from below of southern Thailand, 36.8 % are Buddhism. 63.55 % spend at least 2-5 years in the jail , 69.3% feeling half happiness and unhappiness. The most of Psychosocial problem are 72.0 % of anxiety, 63.2% of guilty feeling ,66.1 % though it fair to be punished ,56.9 % have strength mind , 56.9 % have friends in middle level and 56.1 % self help when having problem ,61.9 % spend most time by occupational training, 73.3 having social expectation , 39.2 % hoping that people in public did not have an version for them. For health assessment they found that 53.2 % in middle level and 59.5 % seldom to have health examination.
The correlation between variables in term of age were found significant as follow :
- Health assessment : age 14-45 years (44.9 %) assessed they having a good health. (P<0.01)
- Feeling for their fortunate : age 26-35 years (40.5%) have strength mind . (P<0.02) age 36-49 years (35.8%) are interesting in religion. (P<0.01)
- Expected to social : age 25-35 years (37.5%) though that people out of the jail will not accept them. (P<0.05 )
