The purpose of this research was to study the effects of group reality therapy on study habits and study attitudes of the students in the mathematics program. The hypothesis was that post-test scores on the Survey of Study Habits and Study Attitudes of the experimental group would be higher than pretest scores and higher than the control group's post-test scores.
The research design was the pretest and post-test control group design. The sample was 32 students in the second year mathematics program in the Faculty of Education, Prince of Songkla University. They were randomly selected from volunteer students who scored 0.5 S.D. under the mean. The students were assigned to an experimental group, and a control group, each group comprishing 16 students. The experimental group participated in a Group Reality Therapy program conducted by the researcher, for continuesing weekend 3 days 2 night, total 20 hours. They participated in a coun-seling group for 10 times, twice a week, each one and a half hours over a period of 5 consecultive weeks total 15 hours. This made a lot of approximately 35 hours intervention. The instrument used in this study was adapted from The Survey of Study Habits and Study Attitudes : Brown and Holtzman. The t-test was utilized for data analysis.
The results indicated that the students in the experimental group obtained higher scores on the post-test than on the pretest, and higher scores than the control group on the post-test, significant at the .01 level.
