Client and health care professional's perception of HIV screening test

This descriptive research was designed to identify and compare the client and health care professional's perception of HIV screening test in Songklanagarind hospital. The simple random sampling were used to select 100 health care professionals (doctors and nurses) and 500 clients from 10 outpatient clinics. The questionnaires developed by the researchers from a focus group and lite-rature review of factors related HIV screening test issues were used to obtain data gathering during January to March 1999. Results showed that the client and health care professional's perception of HIV screening test in overall were not statistically significant difference (P>0.5). However, the mean score of client's perception was higher than those of professional's perception in some circumstances especially the perception about the importance and the necessary of HIV screening test, the bad effect and the report of the test. In addition, the mean scores of health care professional's perception was significantly difference by sex, job's position and frequency of serum contant (P<0.5). Whereas, the mean score of client's perception was significantly difference by educational level, occupation, and income. Moreover, they were significant difference of client's perception according to the different outpatient clinics. The mean score of client's perception in medical clinic was higher than those of other clinics.
