Excessive ground movements in deep excavation have always been a major concern in urban development. Jet grouting is an effective soil improvement method to reduce wall deflections, ground settlements, strut forces and wall bending moments in deep excavations in soft clay. The effective-
ness increases with increasing grout thickness or increasing number of grout layers. With jet grouting it may be possible to reduce the number of strut levels and the penetration depth. This paper presents the results of a series of parametric study to examine the effect of jet grouting on the performance of braced excavation in soft clay with special emphasis on the lateral wall deflection and wall bending moment.
