This ethnographic study was to discover the use of local wisdoms in solving mental health problems. The research was conducted in a suburban area, assessed to be safe, and not inhabited by people unfriendly to outsides and availability of transportation. Additionally, the spoken dialect of
the area was understandable to the researchers. The data were collected from 16 key informants and
44 other participants through the use of focus group, indepth interviews, and participant observation. Field noted were analyzed, using Version IV of the computer software ethnography program. The
local wisdoms used to solve mental health problems were fortune telling, religious practice, coping, spiritual animistic rituals and eastern traditional medicines.
