Key words : ruthenium complex, 2-(4'-N,N-dimethylaminophenylazo)pyridine
2-(4'-N,N-dimethylaminophynylazo)pyridine (dmazpy) is a chelating ligand containing the azoimine group (N=N-C=N). It is also the derivative of 2-(phenylazo)pyridine (azpy). The complex
of trans-[Ru(dmazpy)2Cl2] was synthesized by interaction between Ru(dmso)4Cl2 (dmso = N,N'-dimethyl sulfoxide) with dmazpy ligand in chloroform as a solvent. The complex was purified by chromatography. ES-MS, IR and Visible spectral data have been employed to characterize the com-plex. The complex exhibits t2Ru(II) ฎ p*(L) MLCT transition in the visible region at lower energy than that of Ru(azpy)2Cl2. This could be the result of the substituent N,N-dimethyl group which shifted the p* orbital of dmazpy shift to lower energy than that in azpy.
