In-line rheometry in extrusion process was carried out. The specially design extrusion die was designed and fitted with a Betol single screw extruder. Pressure transducer and thermocouple were attached to the proper location of the die. Pressure and temperature were therefore captured using data acquisition system at a frequency of 1 Hz. Shear properties of the melt flows were quantified. True
shear stress was later calculated using Bagley correction method. Furthermore, extensional properties were characterised via Cogswell free convergent flow model. At the testing temperature of 200oC, LDPE (Polene, J4324) and HDPE (Thai-Zex 5200B) exhibited very similar shear properties (i.e. shear stress and shear viscosity at a given shear rate). However, they showed different extensional flow properties for both extensional stress and viscosity.
