This study developed nursing care plans (NCP's) for 36 patients with cancer of the female reproductive system in Songklanagarind Hospital, Hat Yai, Songkhla, Southern Thailand. The me-thodology was based on a Functional Health Patterns Framework. The purpose of the study was to develop model nursing care plans for the above-mentioned patients. The study's tool used a nursing care plan format based on Functional Health Patterns developed by the Faculty of Nursing, Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai. A purposive sample of 36 patients was taken in the gynecological ward of Songklanagarind Hospital. The study data were analyzed by frequency and percentage and were used to help establish the nursing care plans.
As a result of the study, four nursing diagnoses were identified in the nursing care plan. These nursing diagnoses were : (1) anxiety (44.52%); (2) effective ability to manage stress (26.71%); (3) impaired self-esteem (19.86%) and (4) alteration in nutrition : less than body requirements (8.90%). Among these nursing diagnoses, one was identified as a wellness nursing diagnosis which was "effective ability to manage stress". The most common diagnosis was anxiety which was classified in the self-perception-self-concept pattern. This study demonstrated that most nursing diagnoses (91.09%) reflected psychosocial problems. It is suggested that nurses who provide care for these patients should be concerned about psychosocial problems of the patients as well as their physical problems.
