The research aims at investigating institutional settings for sustainable shrimp farming development in Thailand. The model may be adopted as a role institutional management model for countries of similar nature and elsewhere.
An Integrated Coastal Zone Development Analysis (ICZDA) was developed as an analytical framework for two selected case studies - Chantaburi and Suratthani Models.
Development or shrimp farming in Thailand has been through boom and bust cycle, and yet Thailand has continued its pace and endeavors to lead the world for an achievement of sustainable management. The two cases of distinguished management practices exhibited the strengths of multi-level stakeholders and multi-stakeholder levels structures which were complimentary to each other. The merits of these structures indicated type of data/information and delivery systems, and human
skills needed for the sustainable shrimp farming management at different levels of institutional set-tings. A training package involving as many dominant institutional components of the two cases as possible was designed to be transferred to a wider shrimp farming population in Thailand and else-where.
