Effects of astaxanthine supplemented in the feeds on growth, survival and weight increment
in black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) were studied. The results showed that there were no effects on growth or on survival. However, an increase in the hemocyte count and in the clearance ability of shrimp body against bacteria were noted but no effects on phenoloxidase activity were detected. The supplementation of astaxanthine in the feeds improves the resistance against bacterial infection and
the pigmentation of shrimp.
