According to the accumulated knowledge in the treatment of periodontal disease, the principles and concepts of periodontal treatment have been gradually changed. Clinical evaluation between the effects of surgical and non-surgical periodontal treatment revealed significant probing pocket depth reduction and attachment gain. However, long junctional epithelium appeared to be the typical periodontal wound healing in both treatment modalities. Several techniques of reconstructive periodontal surgery have been studied based on the concepts of delaying apically downgrowth of oral epithelial cells and promoting connective tissue attachment. Thus, the possibility of periodontal tissue regeneration is in reality.
